I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey everyone. I'm looking to do some mild work to a '79 750 engine. Right now it's in pieces so I figure now's as good a time as any to beef it up a bit and make a decent streetbike out of it. What I have to work with so far is the bottom end minus pistons, tranny, block, head minus cams and gears. Basicly, I'm woundering what's interchangable with the other GS engines, what to look out for and what gives good gains for cheap. I appreciate your input. Thanks

if you stay stock then a simple jet kit for the carbs, pod filters, and a good 4-1 exhaust are all most need for strong throttle excitement, much past these and your into racing teritory :D

Cams and compression will really wake those engines up .

Also the ports really need some clean-up and mild port work , stock cams and some added compression with a pipe and one tooth smaller countershaft sprocket gets em off their chair too .

I'm not sure how far your willing to go but 85 wheel hp is pretty easy to get w/o too much money spent .

Right on. Yeah, I'm not looking for anything too exstensive. Just wanta wake it up a bit. I may do a big bore kit, cause the motor has no pistons right now. So I figure nows as good as any. Would 1100 cams do anything for it? Or should I just stay with stockers?

The 1979 was a two valve motor . The cams were dumb in all them .

I am no cam expert in terms of knowing the specs per model but I would think the 1000 cams to be a bit hotter . 104 intake lobe center angle and 108 ex would be a start even with the stockers .

If you have cams you might just bore it , port it and pipe it then change cams later since it's easy on those models .

Maybe think about old KZ 1000 carbs with single air filters ? These will have the larger needle jet for your needs .

Off topic but when I have time I on occasion cruise through Ebay to just look at old parts . I cannot believe the premium some pay for the old real 29 mm Smooth Bores 8O

Am I correct to assume that you guys mean exhaust pipes when you say "pipe it"?

The best way I've found to make a bike go faster is to twist the throttle. There are some prerequisites, but those are easy to learn about.
