A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I apologize in advance if this has been posted previously..but I am on dial up and searching was taking too long...

IN the past 6 - 8 weeks I have went thru 2 cables..this last one lasted just 2 weeks.

Any ideas as to why they would start breaking???](*,) I have had the bike since end of May and the original (to me ) cable lasted approx 2 moths also but it was somewhat rusted...it is an 83 GS850 (not sure if G or GL)...

I ned to get this fixed so I can move up in size of bike as I need to be able to pull a small trailer and possible sidecar for my blk lab.

Are you sure that the cable isn't binding somewhere? My Shadow throttle cable broke twice before I discovered that it was pinched by the tank. (primary cable split for two carbs....THAT was an expensive mistake!)

Was it a universal cable or OEM ?? WHere did it break ?? The usual suspect is the clutch lever. Their should be a plastic insert Over the lever end. Make sure to put a dab of silicon grease on the ends

if it is a motion pro cable that will be the problem!!!
genuine suzuki is the only way to go.

Absolutely no binding....slid back and forth like a dream whilst disconnected....added a touch of dry lube and a little silicone at the ends and all worked great....then all of a sudden....SNAP and i was shifting with out the use of a clutch cable.....not really my idea of fun in city traffic....:-(

Universal cable???? Did not know there were such an animal. I presumed it was OEM as it was p/n'ed for the G / GL only....Importer/distributor is Parts USA....and I am not impressed with there cables...the first one snapped inside the slug that fits inside the clutch lever .... this last one well it was midnite and I haven't looked to see where exactly from the slug it snapped....the first one looked like it was sheared of nice and smooth.

Unless the dealerships parts people can't read..they say it is not avail from Suzuki....but I don't know..for sure will re-check later this morning.
