true, most noise i had was while using the cigarette adapter and rubber duck antenna. the sent audio was fine regardless of being plugged in or not, and received audio was fine when using the battery pack. as this was on a vw and a jeep cherokee that were both running modified ignition systems, i suspect it was just the usual electrical interference speaker noise (high to higher pitch whining depending on rpm). of course the old hotwater 202's were great for modding, but imo were lacking in other areas.
the antenna i used on the vehicles were a pvc encapsulated copper tube slim jim and same materials 1/4 wave j-pole.

if you are ever in the terlingua/big bend area, hit the repeaters. kb5rob always has his on as does n1vzl, mine is kb5kou (for some reason still not showing as tech class, need to call them and sort that out).
