    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Crank Case Drain PLug

I can not for the life of me get the crankcase plug loose. I have a 650g, which means that motor oil is filled and applyed to both the engine and the crankcase. Heres the situation:
  • Drained my old oil from the main plug underneath.
  • Couldn't get my plug socket to fit above the exhaust pipe in the nook where the crank case plug is. Decided I would temp. not drain the crank case. Then I refilled with fresh oil.
  • Added way too much oil, Rode the bike around for a day or two , got nervous about having too much oil, and drained the oil again.
  • This time I tried using a vice grip to get the crank case plug unscrewed. Only thing I did was begin to strip the bolt. gave up.
  • So I added another batch of fresh oil again to the fill.
Is there a chance that some of the fresh oil has migrated into the crankcase?, now that I have changed out the oil several times.

Any recommendation for getting to that plug?

Tap on the bolt a little with a hammer. Try a pipe wrench now since the head is screwed up anyway. It will bite better than vise-grips. If that doesn't work it's time to pull the pan.
 
Mine was very tight as well, and I was worried I was going to break/strip something, but did you try taking the bike for a ride first and get it warmed up good? I did that anyway to get the oil warmed up so that it would drain better/faster...just a thought.

I would stick to using a socket as well...in my limited experience you can apply a lot more torque that way anyhow, without the danger of stripping the head.

I would also think that some of the fresh oil would circulate to the crank case...

What color is the oil in the sight level?

I am changing mine at every 1000 km until it does not look black right after I change it. :cry:

I am sure someone will come along with some better ideas/more info than me as I am a newb at this, but...

yeah, I tried when the engine was hot. no luck. I sprayed some wd-40 to clean it a bit. Still no luck. When the deep pocket plug socket wouldn't fit due to clearance, I used a 13/16 reg. socket and still didn't have clearance. I really don't want to have to take the exhaust off while its hot. I actually would prefer not taking the exhaust off at all.

Man, that sucks.

Unless there is some type of penetrating oil that might work better then WD-40, the only other thing I can think of is sliding a steel pipe or something over the socket handle to give yourself a bit more leverage...although I am not sure how wise that is as you do not want to strip the head right off...

Or you can just take the easy road and stick a small hose into the fill plug opening down into the oil and suck the oil out (taste bad though, yuck).
