Cylinder head hole

So I have had starting issues in my GSX250E, I pulled the spark plugs out and came across this in behind the spark plug.

So my way of thinking is this. At some point with a ratchet extension I have poked the cylinder head. I know it was stupid, not sure myself how I did it, it doesn't look like it has blown out or there would be oil coming from the hole?

So I am thinking, take the rocker cover off, use a magnetic pick up tool to get the metal bits out, change the oil to cover all bases and use metal putty to seal the hole. Question is, how much pressure is in that section, is it the actual crank case and will metal putty do the job?

please be honest, if I need a new cylinder barrel I can do it but would rather not if I don't have to.

Comparing that to the motor I have here, I can't tell what you've gone into.
You're going to have to pull the cam cover and have a look. Given there's no oil running out, you may have gone into an airspace
under the camshaft cavity in which case, no harm, no foul.
Even if it is a wet area, it's fixable, welding is preferred though.

I'm not familiar with the 250 but that looks a lot like a cooling fin with a weep hole to allow rain water to drain from the spark plug well. Are you sure the hole leads down into the valve cover and not just to another open area?

...and it's there a similar hole on the other cylinder?

Well, on the 250 motor I have here there are no holes there...So it's damage of some kind.
As I said earlier it may just be into an airspace...

You are correct sir. It seems to be some sort of air chamber on there. This is what I found after 45 minutes of valve cover jujitsu. So I am going to put it all together, get it to my welder and get him to do something about that hole so it doesn't collect dirt and junk in it.
