A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cylinders 1&4 not firing...

So here is what I have: bike has been running pretty good, but been having some difficulty starting, noticing a knock on #1-figured it was just due to age and our noisy engines.
Tonight, it was a huge pain to start, and when I got it home, just for kicks and giggles I pulled the wire off of #1 while she was running. Didn't affect performance at all. Plenty of spark, not firing. Got to feeling the pipes, and #4 was cool, so I pulled that wire as well would the same result.
My thoughts are: points dirty/out of adjustment, or am I way off in left field?

Sorry, need to put it in my Sig...82 gs850glz. Steve cleaned and synced the carbs less than 1k ago...

Yes. Planning to pull the plugs tomorrow and see what they look like.

I will do that tomorrow when I'm pulling everything apart. :D
There was suppose to be a quote with this post...

Points may have slipped or that coil is bad. Maybe a bad condenser too since it's got points.

It's an '82, it does not have points. :o

Since it's 1&4 that have died, your problem is most likely in the ignition circuit.

Use your test light or voltmeter to follow the voltage to the coils, make sure you have power to BOTH coils.
If you have power to both coils, check the power to the igniter, then check the igniter itself.

Didn't read the entire thread where he posted the year, just went by his first post.

Whoops...
I will do this and post the results tomorrow.

Try new spark plugs, seeing as though in your first post you said you pulled the plug wires off 1 and 4 and there was plenty of spark but not firing. I assume you means the cylinders were not firing but there was spark off the end of the plug wires. is that correct.
