    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I just sold a complete rear master cylinder and piston on Ebay. I see them all the time and most GS models with rear disk are interchangeable.

Interesting part. I looked on my '78 organ donor. My fitting goes straight in to the piston assy. Not at an angle like your picture shows. So I guess I can't help you. Sorry.

I'm sorry Tom. I don't see the angle your referring to. It looks like all the rear systems I've seen except some have a low brake fluid switch.

Item #8 in his diagram looks to me like it attaches to the piston assembly with a flange face and a couple of screws. Mine (and I guess yours too) is threaded straight into the body of the piston assy. Like this

This is on a '78 GS1000. It's the same setup on my '80 GS1100.

It's been discontinued. Does anyone know where I can buy one? Other than salvage yards, that is. May be there's an equivalent part from another bike that fits just perfectly?

A little FYI, just because the fiche says "discontinued" that does NOT always mean the part is no longer available from Suzuki. "Discontinued" frequently means the original part number has been discontinued. Go to your local dealer, and have them do a dealer part inquirery. This will in fact detail if the part is truly discontinued, or a new p/n is available.

I'll also check on eBay to see whether there are anything useable there, as well as the local dealership.

BTW, I'm rather intrigued by chef1366's comment about the rear master cylinder on most GS' are interchangeable. Because the one on Tom MLC's '78 bike looks a lot sturdier than the plastic piece that broke off on mine. So, if it's possible, I may consider replacing the whole bit with something similar. But, does anyone know for sure whether it'll fit on an '83?

Some of the things that might be different are mount bolt holes, switch connection, and the brake fluid outlet. You have something going on at the top in your diagram. I think that's where the fluid comes out? That looks way different than mine.

Unfortunately, the bike is in someone else's garage who's actually doing the work. :oops: I don't remember how the whole thing is mounted. But, I've sent him your picture to see whether something like that would fit. We'll go from there.

The thing just burst and broke off while he's bleeding the line. That's why I'd like something sturdier, if I can, because I'd hate to have that happen while I'm on the road. Granted that the bike's 23 years old and been sitting in someone's garage for the last 12. :)

Any Brake specialist should be able to supply you a piece like that, you will need to know thead size and pitch, and the hose diameter.

Thanks for the suggestions. The guy who's working on it said that he may have an older style 1-piece master cylinder lying around. So, he's going to look for it and see if it fits. If it doesn't fit or he can't find it, then we'll call around to see if there's one locally available. If there's none, then we'll try to order it from either of the two online shops you guys have suggested.
