    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I read in a post today that you tried to fix a float post with JB weld. How did you end up fixing it ? I broke one tonight right across the pin hole, while tapping out the post. I need the Doctor!!

I'd just glue it back on with JB Weld. Then drill it out to get rid of any excess epoxy. It doesn't have to withstand much force except when removing the pin. Next time support it better...

You could do a search for other suggestions, but usually they break off much lower on the post

make sure you use normal jbweld.. not jb kwik, the stuff that says to cure for 24 hours.. the 4 hour stuff is junk.
 
These guys are right. I JB welded mine, but put it on the two sides of the hole instead of filling it all the way and drilling it again which might have worked better. I'll just say that when I pulled it out of the bowl the JB Weld (the regular kind, not the quick) was soft as putty and I DID let it cure 24 hours. I wound up temp fixing with of all things super glue gel, which has amazingly held for over a month now, so I guess it's not soluble in gas. My ultimate solution was another carb body I'm going toi install while doing some other work with the head off in a week or so.
 
Thanks, I posted this without reading the entire thread I referenced. What is the result of the post failing after a few months? Will it cause a seroius failure? At a miniumum, I'd have to remove the carbs and replace the body. I'm more concerned that it may ruin something.

If the post fails, the float will fail, and the bowl will overflow, running gas out the overflow tube. Thats' how I knew the JB Weld had failed. Personal opinion... if you're going to own one of these bikes and plan on keeping it for many years, look around and find a deal on a full set of spare carbs, then you have all the bits and pieces if ever needed.
 
Thanks everyone. I have no idea how I would ever do this without everyone's help. I'm hoping to take a nice ride Labor Day weekend!!
