    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So I bought a donor engine off of CR due to the condition of the one I had. And I saw that the guy who hacked the bike apart decided he was in a BIG hurry and snapped the bolts off for the exhaust in the head.

They have been soaking for 2 days in PB Penetrating Catalyst, WD40, and I have used a propane torch. They will not budge. I could use the Oxy/Ace torch, or bust out the Muriatic Acid?

Suggestions?
 
slot them or weld something to them, heat, or take them to a machinest.

left handed drills if they break off further.
 
Do you have access to a MIG welder? There is plenty of bolt there to weld a nut on the stub, and the welding heat will help break down the chemical bond. The key to removing those bolts is to work them back and forth, in and out, a little at a time. Keep them wet with PB spray and keep working them but don't use too much force or they will snap off.
 
Thanks, I never thought of welding a nut to them! I will give it a shot tonight.
 
no matter how hard a person tries...
a lot of times these 30 year old bolts just snap.
been there...done that.
weld a nut one at a time and see if the seized part will come out while its still hot.
 
It's widely reported that a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF makes the best penetrant for stuck bolts. Haven't tried it myself, but it seems like it's the way to go.

Wouldn't the heat from acetylene be a bit much for the aluminum?

Acetone and atf works incredibly well.
At least you can take the head to a professional with relative ease.

Dont be in a rush an mess this up and no one mentioned easy outs but dont use em.

What's wrong with easy outs? Can't get enough torque?
 
They will break off inside the bolt you are trying to drill out and don't come back out easily afterwards.
 
If you havent already, save yourself some time and do the simple thing first. Respray with PBlaster and with a small hammer, just tap each one a few times. Tap, not strike. I work on construction equipment all day everyday and I get broke off bolts on a reglar basis. I have a 12 oz ball peen that has been the cause of more bolts coming out than my torch ever has. Then after wards you can weld a nut on them or slot them as you see fit. For the ones that may be sub flush, use a center punch. I have a couple impact screw drivers aswell with stud and bolt removers to help.
 
Most of those should come out with a welded nut on them as you have enough thread to work with.

Easy outs that snap off need 'spark errosion' removal and that is highly specialist engineers shop in the UK which is hard to to source.
