    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Finding a replacement fuel screw

I've been working on tuning the carbs on my 81 GS 450L. The carbs are stock original.

The fuel screw for one of them was butchered with a phillips head and is missing both the spring and the the O ring.. I'm looking for a replacement, preferably something like the one on the right in this picture to make them easier to access.



Anyone have suggestions on models, stores, etc to get me going the right direction?
 
That's an interesting design. Granted they don't need adjusting very often but that sure would make it easy when it is needed. I recently had to replace a carb body due to a stripped fuel screw that even heating with a torch repeatedly and slotting the body and screw with a Dremel and diamond tipped bit wouldn't break free.

@mikerophone - I was afraid of that happening as well.. Thankfully I was able to worry it out.
@BigD 83 - I've not seen those in person, but I've seen a number of variants on the net. Unfortunately most of the pics seem to have dated from 2005 to 2008 and I haven't found a current supplier.
 
Should I expect an 'RS' model Mikuni carb on this bike? I've been digging around diagrams for a number of era appropriate Mikuni carbs and that diagram looks the closest.


If I'm right the stock part number should be 604-26003... That's a starting point for me finding one with the knurled ends I'm after.
 
Not quite what I wanted but it worked out perfectly on my bike -48-5010. Lot longer shaft the the stock screw and a much deeper groove that shouldnt strip out.
 
i've personally had fairly decent luck with getting hard to find mikuni bs34ss carb parts off of partzilla. might be worth a look. i think that just about everything minus the actual carb bodies, diaphragm caps, float bowls, throttle shafts and butterflys you should be able to get.
 
To clarify I tracked your original image through Google to a KTM forum and found that link in the KTM forum where your image was originally posted. The stenhouse link. I found the amazon link by searching bst idle screw.
 
Wow $35 or 20? Yeah think I'll hold off for now as well. Not even sure it'll fit. The BST says it will fit an RM, but I haven't cross referenced it since I just bought the whole carb body from JT on here/eBay.
