I have a 79 1000 L, You can't buy carb boots for it any more, I think, I looked around asked shops and no none for me. So I took matter into my own hands, made my own. I went to an auto parts store asked them for the biggest hose they had that could handle fuel. They said how about fuel filler neck for a gas tank, bingo, right size, tough enough to resist fuel vapor and the like.I went in the store and found some tubing that was the same diameter or close. I cut the tubing to 2" which is the length of the old boots. Lessons learned and the like. My boots were shot so I had no choice. I asked some of the guys here about Radiator hose, they said it does ok for a while but breaks down and gets too soft from the fuel vapors.
Old boots
New boot, / fuel tubing. It would not fit over the carb neck so I had to stretch it out. I used a glass candle / votive holder. I wet the top of the glass and stretched the hose over it.
To make it fit inside the air box I had to reduce the size, I used a zip tie to compress the boot.
I used large needle nose pliers with a 45 deg angle to put them into the air box and fit them to the correct hole.
I pushed it through, cut the zip tie and worked it over the carb mouth. It wasn't very easy but it is a tight fit on the carb and in the air box. The tubing is large enough that it is tight inside the box. I also purchased black silicone gasket maker to guarntee a proper seal and no air leaks.
It came out pretty good, the tubing is tough and very thick so as the air box sides vibrate and probably cut into the tubing it should actually make a better seal.
Turns out to be a pretty good fit.

I have had the greatest advice, and ideas from here so to the newbs who have problems with their boots and any other stuff, post questions AFTER you read and search the forums. It's probably already been posted, asked and answered.
