    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fork Seals - 1982 GS850L

Hi guys;

Long time since last post but I need your help.

I've got a leaking front fork seal and went to the dealer to order two seals and they said there is no listing for a 1982 Suzuki GS850L model in their books.

I gave them the Serial number and they said it was an import so they don't know what part number to order. Might be a US bike or European - I'm from Canada. Serial # JS1GS71L9C2103706

They have a listing for an 82 GS850G & GS850GL Part # 51153-49000.
The part numbers also changed or upped one as they put it to -
#51153-490001 and #51153-08C20.

Basically what I need now is someone to confirm whether their listing of an 82 GS850GL or G part number for front fork seals will fit my bike (GS850L)

I have to pay for the seals first before they order them and there is no refund if they're not the proper size.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if it will help but you can go on bikebandit and look up oem parts for your bike. shows you the diagram and part numbers. good luck! :D
 
Your "GS850L" is actually a GS850GL.

Just because it doesn't have the second G on the side cover doesn't mean it's not part of the model designation.

That second G merely says that it's a shaft-driven model. The numbers you were given for the fork seals are the correct ones.

Please don't recommend going to Bike Bandit to look up part numbers.

They are the ONLY supplier that uses their own part number system instead of Suzuki OEM numbers.

Also be aware that they usually have the second highest prices of any of the suppliers, too.
Unless you can find something on one of their sales, might be best to avoid them.

You 850L is a GL, it just isn't on the side cover emblem. The G designates the shaft drive. The L has leading axle forks. Use that seal.
Order your parts from an online Suzuki place such as Boulevard Suzuki or G&S Suzuki and you can return anything that isn't right.
You will also save a ton of money.

Am going to get the dealer to order the part number they quoted me for the 82 GS850G.

I think I've got a touch of CRAFT syndrome - I'm sure I knew about the 2nd "G" meaning "shaft drive" :lol:

Will let you all know how the install goes with the seals.
