A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

This problem has plaqued me for over a year and my bike has run poorly. It was like a friend that has been sick for so long you thought he would never get well. I had the carbs out twice which was a real wrestling match. But it was always plug number two that was fouled and no others. The bike was a 1981 GS650L with about 45K miles. BUT after staring at the carbs for a long time and turning them over I found #2 has an extra hole in the venturi where the vacuum line attaches. Finally the light went on. It's getting extra gas in the vacuum line because the petcock diaphragm has a hole in it. Sure enough, I put a rubber line on the petcock and sucked on the vacuum line and it started to gurgle and gas ran out. I put a diaprhagm kit in the petcock, replaced the fouled plug and my friend is BACK. HALLELUJAH. I rode a hundred miles yesterday just to celebrate. Yaahoooooo!

Anytime number 2 gives you a problem the petcock is the first place to look.

I just spent a mere two weeks lamenting the passing of my dear ol 650G(L) because I thought I had holed a piston or valve in cylinder #1, but when I finallly checked the pipes I realized it was 2 that was cold.

replaced the petcock diaphram with one from the 850 and voila, problems solved!! (aside from the fact that I can outrun the fuel flow at highway speeds, but at least I know what to fix)

I never realized it would actually let that much gas thru to DESTROY the performance! 8O

ON the older slide carbs pre 1980 it would be the #3 carb
