DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Front fairing picture needed for GS 1100 SD Kat

John Kat

Forum Sage
I'm rebuilding a 2nd gen 1100 Katana and I need good pictures of the fairing so that I can position the decals correctly.

Hiya John
Would a U.S. version work? Or is the Euro one different?
Let em know and how to take them and what to show.

Hi Greg,

I found what I needed by looking at the cover of the Cycle World magazine dated Feb 1983.
I'm sure that it's that article that kept ticking in my brain for nearly 30 years that pushed me to buy an 1100 Kat...
Interestingly enough, I believe I will enjoy riding it more today than in those days.
Strange isn't it?

Nice!

Nice!

Hello John
Funny, I have that article along with several other Katana tests.
Now, I thought you were doing a full resto and I see you wedging an 18" GSXR wheel in the rear. Does that count? Or is it what we call here a resto-mod?

Sincerely

Greg

Hi Greg,

Yes, I got you confused there;)
In fact I restored my first Kat ( the 82 model) as close to original as possible except that I got it with an 1150 engine.
Since then, I bought another KAT ( the 83 model) that's beeing restored back to OEM and this now "allows" me to resto-mod my 82 model.
It will have GSX-R 1st gen wheels, front fork and brakes.
It's the GSX-R rear wheel you saw beeing tested on my 83 model.
I hope you've followed?

I think I am. I had done the 18" GSXR wheel mod years ago and I think I found the two fotos I have with it. I will email them or try to post them.
The Kats do work much better with the more modern suspension and rubber. Though 25 year old GSXR could still be considered modern?

The other before it was done but after the 4x18 was widened to 5.0"

It seems that I'm following your example;)
I believe this must be the best and easiest upgrade for the Kat.
Thanks for posting!
