    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fuel out of the exhaust...

Runs really good at idle with a couple burps here and there. Small problem is when I run it, it has gas dripping out of the exhaust. Idle is set at 1025 no choke. I've been through the carbs 3 times now, new jets, needles/seats, float adjusted to ~23mm (tape measure :oops:) I just replaced the petcock/diaphragm assembly. Just replaced the plugs/wires on it. Stock airbox with new filter, and new vacuum lines ran due to cracking. I've tried adjusting the air/fuel mix but I can't find the screw for it... I see a jet in the airbox side of the carb, and that's all. I've been through the forums and on BikeCliff's website, studied my service manual going on over 40+ hours. I think I am missing something very simple, yet I can't figure it out. :confused:
New thing... When I hit the throttle now, it dies. I'm stumped, out of smokes and frustrated :mad:
'81 GS850L 4-1 Jardine exhaust, stepped pilots to .45 everything else is stock.
:pray:Any help will be super appreciated before I just take a rag and blow it sky high :D

Exciting ! The only time Ive ever seen that is when I forget the petcock is on PRI. Sounds like maybe the float height is wrong and over filling the bowls....
 
That's what I thought too, but I checked the height twice on the floats (first time to set it)

I'm not sure this is a valid way to set the float heights... My advice is to get a cheap set of digital calipers (or for just a little more money, a great set: http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Dig...d=1369678306&sr=8-7&keywords=digital+calipers) and check the float height like they show in the rebuild tutorial.

(I have to do this myself since I set my float height using a ruler before I bought my calipers and I'm 99% sure this is contributing to some of my issues.)
 
I can't say I've ever had gas come out the tail pipe but I did have blowback into the air box and blow back into the oil pan. If it's coming out the tail pipe, check your oil to make sure gas isn't ending up there also.
 
are you sure it is gas and not water? combustion engines produce H2O as a by product of combustion. if the engine/exhaust does not get hot enough, condensation builds up and can spit out the exhaust.

when it is hot enough it will evaporate before it turns into water droplets.

I agree with this. If the bike is firing on all four cylinders, it would have to be EXTREMELY rich to produce liquid fuel dripping out the exhaust.

I bet it's water.
 
I had this happen once when two pilot jets vibrated loose (probably not tightened by the stoopid owner) and it was just dumping fuel into the cylinders...not a good situation, because once everything gets hot enough, you can get flame along with the gas...looks cool on a top fuel dragster, but not so nice in the confines of one's garage. Having a couple of drychem fire extinguishers nearby, just in case, is good for peace of mind.

Something is up with the carbs, valves, or both.
