I'm looking at carb rebuild kits. I have a '79 GS750 with VM26ss carbs. This is what I found.

http://factorymotorsports.net/mivmrekit.html

Just to confirm, that is the correct rebuild kit?

And I have been looking for jets to rejet the carbs. But, I can only find parts for VM26-606. Is this basically the same carb? If so, the jet sizes are main 4/042 and pilot m28/1001.

Thanks in advance, you guys are great!

Think that kit is for a different carb than those used on the GS's, most parts look different.

As for being a newbie, please check my signature for the newbie mistakes thread so you can learn what to avoid.

Get the oring kit for Roberbarr here on the forum ( cycleorings.com). Tell him or order the VM kit AND order the drain gaskets and carb holder orings as well. Do it all right once.

Then you can get with Z1 or other places and get the mains and pilolts you need. SIRIUS CONSOLIDATED has 4 pacls of top and bowl gaskets for 10 bucks so dont waste extra cash with someone else on those. They also have some pilots and mains. Think the gaskets are on page 5 or 6 here.

The kit you referenced from Z1 comes with your pilot jet, in fact it comes with everything. Main jet, pilot, air mixture, float needle and seat and your fuel mixture screw. They're good kits, I've used them myself. I just noticed you actually stated in your first post you are looking to rejet. Z1 sells all the jets and pilots separately as well, in fact they sell everything separately, gaskets, float needles, ect..

Remember if you've got any doubts before ordering from Z1 just phone them, or email them. They have great, friendly service staff that really know what they're doing.

Yeah I saw it comes with a main and pilot jet, as wells as top and bowl gaskets. I am going to have to rejet the carbs when my exhaust and pods come in. The kit only has the stock jets on it. I was curious if those gaskets are comparable to the ones on SIRIUS.

I think they use the same supplier.

Why do you insist on wasting your money? :-k

You keep asking about rebuild kits, all of which will provide you with STOCK jetting.

You keep saying you are going to re-jet, so you will just be wasting your money with the kits that have STOCK jetting.

The kit from Z1 is almost $20, and you will need four of them. You will be able to use the gaskets.

The gaskets from Sirius are a total of about the cost of one rebuild kit. Since you are re-jetting that expense will happen whichever way you go with your gaskets, but why spend $60 on stuff that you don't need?

By the way, you do get some of your o-rings in the rebuild kits, but you don't get all that you need. Skip the rebuild kits, get the o-rings from cycleorings.com, get the gaskets and jets from Z1.

.

Ive gotten bowl gaskets from Z1 and spent ( If i remember right ) around 36 bucks. Then I found Sirius and that why I refer folks there. Never had a bowl leak out of dozens used from them and they are as thick as the OEM ones too.

Like Steve said..WHY WASTE your money. Get them from whomever you choose, but ive not found one place that beats Sirius on gasket price. And Roberts website mentions that you tell him you want the drain orings as well because they arent listed if i recall correctly. I always place my order AND i also send him a PM here and mention that little detail.

Do the VM carbs need the drain screw o-rings? :-k

It has been a while since I have done a set of VM carbs, and don't remember whether they had gaskets or not on the drain screws.

I do know that the drain screw o-ring description on Bob's site says "Drain O-rings for the CV carbs ..."

Maybe they are a different size, and he doesn't carry them?

.

Ive seen ones Ive taken apart have both the orings and the brown waffer thing as a gasket..much like the float needle seats have. Ive used his orings and they seat real nice and provide a good positive no leak seal.

Thanks for the more info, you guys are awesome! I was only looking at the rebuild kit because it also had the replacement springs, pilot fuel screw, pilot air screw, needle, drain plug, and both gaskets. It's good to know I can save the $60 because I don't need those parts. Thanks again!

Only time youll need to replace a hard part is like if a fuel screws sharp tip is broke. Maybe a float needle or float seat from time to time, but generally they dont get worn very easily. Springs..well they can take a set I suppose, but ive never replaced one.
