Fuses

I need a little more help. Everyone is so great here. Appreciation cannot be expressed enough about what I have received so far.

I am missing the fuse box cover for my '81 850. I am now looking to replace these fuses. The Clymer manual is of no use in this area. I do not trust the previous owners now that I have gone through the electrical system and I need to know the size of all the fuses and the order from top to bottom, that is how mine is mounted.

By my scematic, the top fuse is for instrument lights, head light turn sig. switch and is 10 amps.
second (down) is for the turn sig. relay, control unit, brake light, and horn, it is also 10 amps.
third fuse down is for starter switch and ignition system and is 10 amps.
the forth fuse (down) is the main fuse and it goes to the ignition switch and the output from the regulator/ rectifier comes back through this fuse to the battery, it is 15 amps.
the last fuse (BOTTOM) is a accesory fuse and stock does not power any thing, but you can hook up extra lights, radio, or in my case it powers the aftermarket horn relay, and horn on my bike, it is 10 amps.

I have just bought a 1982 GS 550 with a fuse problem. Would you know if the reply for your 850 would apply to my 550?

Any help you guys can give this first time GS buyer would most welcoms.

Those are pretty much standard for most GS models.

Most GS's have seven fuses five 10 amp and two 15 amp.

From the top:
1,2,3,5 10 amp
4 15 amp
+ 1 of each as spares in the cover

These old glass fuses take a beating from vibration, the ends can be totally unattached from the glass and still work being held together by the actual fuse block...untill the worst possible moment.

Remove each fuse annually and give it a tug by both ends, if it is lose or comes apart scrap it!
I buy the best fuses I can get and replace all off them every second riding season.

A box of fuses is a couple of bucks. One of the first things I did when I got my bike and was going thru the electrical system was replace them all.
