DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hells yeah! got it runnin' - except it dies when you give it gas and only stays running with the choke on (turns out, the 2-3 coil was bad even though it ohmed out OK). The #3 exhaust pipe isnt getting hot either. As soon as you give it gas, it dies. It sounds like it takes in a big gulp of air then dies. Where is a good place to start at? BTW, i just rebuilt the carbs, so my adjustments are prolly all off. I have the 'top side' metering needles at 1 turn out, and the bottom ones are at 1 1/8. Anyone know where to get a petcock diaphragm and fuel filter at?

Please post what bike you have! I would just order a new petcock.. Z1enterprises.com has a replacement.
I would turn the bottom mixture screw in to 0ne turn -7/8 out and the air screw to 2 1/2 to start. You did reinstall the air box correct??

well the 3rd pipe not getting hot tells you it is not firing you need to see why, does that cylinder have compression, spark or fuel eg compression check, after running on choke awhile is the plug wet with fuel from not firing or dry
you need to eliminate some of these variables to find the problem

Hi,

Are the valves adjusted? Is the air intake system free of air leaks? i.e. new intake O-rings, intake boots, etc? Is the airbox sealed and properly installed with an adequate, properly oiled air filter?

Oh yeah, what kind of bike are we talking about? Just put it in your signature file. Use the 'User CP' (User Control Panel) by clicking on the link in the upper left area of your forum page.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Sorry, its a 79 gs550L. I installed 4 cone sytle air filters on it, so i figure i would need to richen it up a little bit. It has 6000 miles on it, i would imagine the valves wouldnt be all that far out of adjustment if at all. I will check the #3 plug after i get the petcock back on for spark and compression. I looked for a new petcock and couldnt find them for a 79, i only found 80 and up - which didnt look like it would fit. The diaphragm just dry rotted and leaks to the vaccuum side. It cleaned up pretty good, just couldnt save the diaphragm and the filter. The boots dont leak as far as i know, i sprayed starting fluid on them all while it was running and the rpms didnt change at all. So, turn the bottom mixture screws 1-7/8 turn out and start the topside screws at 2-1/2?
