A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thanks for all of the help everyone. I got the 77 gs550 running on all four. Whoever installed the Dyna got the coils hooked up in reverse. That thing was never going to start! Once I got reversed the wiring, put a little gas into the cylinders the thing roared to life. Took it for a quick test drive and it picks up and revs pretty well. Only problem is the idle speed is wayyy to high, around 2500 rpm's. Before I start digging into the manual maybe someone can tell me if there is a quick and easy idle adjustment, or could I have the throttle cables too tight? It looks like the cables aren't the problem though.

Congrats. There should be an idle speed set screw (knurled knob) between carbs 2 and 3 - unless that's totally different on VM models. By spec there should be about 1mm of slack in the throttle cable.

You may also be leaking air in there. Definitely would be a good idea to double-check for leaks and still rebuild those carbs, plus install new intake boot o-rings.

I agree. It idles great now after turning the adjustment knob. However, although it accelerates 100% better now that all 4 cylinders are running, it still accelerates pretty choppily, like it's still not getting all of the fuel it needs. I've got the carb o rings and dip, so I might as well go through them when I get the time.

Great news, I like to hear success stories !!

Is the rest of the bike stock ? The airbox and the rubber boots need to be sealed well.:)

Just for reference the Idle Speed Set Screw on the 550s is between carbs 3 & 4.
