    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS 1000 Stock Rim / Max Tire Size

I have a stock GS 1000 (1979) with a stock rear wheel. It currently has a 120/90-17 rear wheel. I look really small. What is the biggest tire I can put on here? Look like there is a fair bit of clearance on either side (chain and swing arm). Thanks,
 
It would help us to know which model you have. The E model had larger tires for stock than the C.
 
130 is the widest you should go with the stock cast wheel. The spoke type GS1000 wheels are 18", and you shouldn't use wider than 120 on those because the rim is narrower.
 
Yes the wire wheel rim is to small for a 130.

Some PO managed to squeeze one on the red wheel(it's the same size as the wire,1.85X18).Tried to get it off myself,Had to take it to my friends shop with a tire machine to get it off!

Hi Mr. Willard13,

Old school bikes need old school tires. For a "fat" tire you would need to replace/modify the swing arm and install a wider rim. On these bikes, tires that are too wide are dangerous.

Thanks for the help. The cast rim is a 17XMT2.50 DOT. I wasn't looking for a monster wheel, just a bit bigger than the 120. Sounds like a 130 is my widest option without added risk or modification?

One more thing. My lights died last night as I was riding home. I hit the high beams and everything went. highs / lows / turn signals - all gone. I assume this is a fuse. So that means something more evil is also happening. Ideas? thx

Check your battery voltage when running.If this over 15 volts you have to start checking electrics.Dead R/R being the likely culprit.
