A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

hi guys was hoping some one out there can advise me can i fit a gs1000 or 750 swing arm into a gs550 frame as i would like a fatter tyre on the back end

Why do you want a fatter tire on the back of a gs550?

There are some common swaps, but they all take a bit of fabrication.

I looked a while ago, an aluminum GS1100E swingarm. It looks like it would work, but would need a spacer around the pivot shaft, or a bigger hole in the 550 frame, and the swingarm would be longer and wider at the rear. If you shortened it on the angled part about halfway back it would bring it both to the right length and width for the 550.

its the look iam hoping to get like a classic cafe racer style but id like either a 750 swing arm but i don't know if they can be swapped over

didn't really want a box section swing arm wanted to keep it retro so i was thinking of either a 100 or 750 swing arm

Both the 750 and 1000 used the same width wheel as a 550. You sure you want to through all the hassle of changing to the different swingarm?

Edit: my comments apply to the 18" wheel versions of those bikes. There are some 16" and 17" wheel variants as well. You might want to try picking up a 17" GS1000 wheel, which is 2.5" wide, and see if you can make it fit on your 550. You will need new wheel bearings and new spacers. Maybe your 550 spacers will work? Not sure but there is a good chance you can make it fit.
