DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi
Just got a 850 (1980) that someone has messed with, its been hand painted (frame ) without the engine being taken out but that aside it hasn't run for 5 years.
The problem well maybe problems are that when its cold its a pig to start but once warm it starts fist time but runs erratic. The rpm will not stay constant and it pops now and again from the exhaust which is not standard, its a 4 into 1 Motad in good condition. I have checked for spark and all plugs are OK its running a standard air box but the filter element is shot, once its warm it revs cleanly but number 2 cylinder really doesn't get that hot at the header (85 degrees c) the rest are around 185 .
The plugs are sooty after a short while so this would suggest rich settings .I am not sure what the previous guy did with the carbs if any jets have been changed because of the exhaust .
This is my first Suzuki 4 stroke previously all have been 2 stroke Suzuki GT 380
Any help would be great .
I live in the UK
Regards

Sitting on bike #1 cylinder is on left (under clutch lever) ?? Ok, then#2 should have vacuum connection to petcock. Probably leaking causing fuel to foul out #2 plug, so that cylinder doesn't get hot.
Best to plan on full monty carb removal and dip. During this, you can determine what jets are in there.

this guy has same bike (usa version) and a warehouse of info, so do some reading

welcome, to the four stroke world

The two primary culprits for poor cold starting are improper valve adjustment and dirty carbs.

Click on the link to our "library" that Tom gave you an be prepared to spend a few weeks reading up on these fine bikes.
