gs1000 Yoshimura now adding K&N Filters

I have a nice running 1978 GS1000E with a Yoshimura Chrome 4 in 1. It also has the stock air box with a 4 inch Pepboys chrome filter clamped onto the round opening with a paper element . Well I just 4 K&N filters and want to put them on. Right now it runs spot on with no hesitation with the Yosh and the pepboy air cleaner system. What type of jetting changes do you think I might need when switching to the K&Ns.
Also the bike is not very loud how can I make it louder. It looks to have a welded in baffle. Drill down into the baffle hole or around the edge of the hole? How do you remove the baffle? Thanks Dale

You'll need the appropriate Dynojet kit for your bike. It will have the needles you need to eliminate mid range hesitation, and the needed drill bits. (Removing emissions caps, drilling the slide lift hole). It'll also have the jets needed to get you pretty close to the correct jetting. Don't try to cut corners. Consider the jet kit mandatory.

you do not need to drill the slides on a E model. well not a uk spec model anyway

He's got VM carbs. He doesn't need any of that


We're presuming that the bike has already been rejetted since it runs good.

So, change to the K&Ns and see how it runs. Then we can tell you, provided you have some problems

The baffle should be riveted in place.

I'd do whats already been suggested. Put those puppies on and see how it runs.
