    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1100GK Frozen airscrews......

How does one go about drilling out the airscrews on the carbs?? I have tried everything I could think of to free them up to njo avail. It seems drilling them out is the only other alternative except for trying to find another rack. Hellllllpppppp meeeeeeeeeeeee plllluuuuuuuuuuzzzeee!!!!
 
You can drill them out MAKE SURE TO USE A LEFT HAND DRILL BIT-- when the drill catches it will probably turn the screw out ?? if it doesn't use an easy out. IF YOU USE a conventional drill if it catches it will turn the screw in and break the point off in the carb Most of ther carb rebuild kits have new needles in them
 
The ONLY way I have had success removing air boot screws is with a hammer and chisel. I use an angle and can stat the outside screw to turn and then get it out and use the bott to turn the second screw.

I try other approaches as I fear this one is a it uncivilized but it is quick easy and works. I always try very hard to mangle the screws first with scew drivers but I am thinking I may sckip that step in the future.

A good penatrating spray and some heat are always your friends when it comes to this. Never under estimate them when coupled with a little patience. Just be sure you have all fuel cleaned away and out before you introduce any open flames :)

You are talking about the air mixtrue screws in the carbs not the boot screws that hold the carb boots to the head right? (in reference to the post above mine) Just checking to make sure were giving you the right advice.

Yep, the ones on the top, engine side, under the little plugs.

Done tried this approach. Soaked them with Blaster for several days prior to using thew heat. Thw main problem I have is that some prior owner attempted to break them free and had pretty much stripped the screwdriver slot out for me.

This is what I figured I needed to do but thought I would seek the wisdom of the board first.

Greg, unless you have a good drill press and drill vise, I would take them to a machine shop and let them do it. When the one in my #4 carb stuck, I took it to a machine shop they drilled it out and only charged me $5 for doing it. That was some of the best money I've spent, because I didn't have to worry about getting it out with out messing up the threads or the orifice.
