All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My bike runs perfectly fine without the air filter and cover. I ran it almost exclusively without the air filter for a while when I first got it.
Thank you.

It's all coming back to me, SLOWLY!

I remember my Honda CB650 Nighthawk had this problem with "air-filter".

The truth is that it's the CALIBRATED air inlet, not the air-filter...:dancing:

Im gonna take back what I said about the air filter/cover. It seems the others were right, because now that my carbs are clean having the cover off the airbox makes a HUGE difference with how the bike runs. It wouldn't idle for me without the cover on. Sorry for misleading.

Kind of lost track of this thread with all the moving around and such I suppose.

Anyhow, for pitty's sake take BassCliff's advice if you haven't already and COMPLETELY STRIP AND CLEAN EVERYTHING in your carburetors. The bike has been standing for a while and there is only one way you can avoid having spotlessly clean carbs, that's to have a bike that doesn't run as it should and you'll always be fiddling with it.

As you know, I have one of these machines and used exactly the same procedure on the carb pair as I did with the rack on my 1100. They're smaller but the same type. O-rings from Robert Barr will work, just use the standard CV set and keep the spares.

Good luck!

Hey everyone,

It has been a long time since I have been on here so I figured I would give an update. I got the bike running perfectly now, it turns out that the carbs just needed re-jetted. I have put about a hundred miles on it since. My goal is to make this my secondary bike next season in order to keep the miles down, since it is currently has only 3850 miles. I am amazed at how much fun it is to ride for being only a 250. I'll post some higher quality, current pictures this weekend. Thanks, Matt
