    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS450l no airbox

I just purchased a gs450l after replacing the battery, and starter relay I could not get the bike to idle. the previous owner replace the carbs with a set he got on E-bay, I took them off and installed the originals back in, bike idles a little better but still not right.carbs need rebuilding.:cry:
The bike has what seems to look like K&N air filters, from what I have been reading in this forum is that with out the air box the bike would need to be re-jeted.unfortunalty the air box is missing.

what is special about the air box? can on be fabricated?
If I re-jet this bike what size jets do I need? where can I get them?

Would an airbox out of a GS500 fit?

Stock carbs require a airbox to operate satisfactory. Stock carbs will not, as you indicate, idle without the airbox or proper jetting to match the pod-filers you describe. Not only that, but the airbox also have to have the airfilter/aircleaner fitted to work properly.

The GS500 were a 4 cylinder bike, was it not? (gurus come in..)
In that case the airbox will not fit.

You could probably use a 250/300/400 airbox (all 2 cylinder bikes), but be carefult to get a box from a L-model of the same year.

PS:
The boxes are a pain to get in or out.
 
The GS500 is a twin, but on totally different frames. You could try, but I wouldn't count on it. Compare schematics on Bikebandit.

I'd either start the task of jetting or start watching ebay for an airbox. They do come up on occasion. I think there may be a few here who have done pods on a 450, they might be able to give you a decent starting point if you decide to keep the pods.

Thanks for the replies, I will try to find the correct airbox and filter,

Well I got up this morning, and decided to pull the carbs, and rubber manifolds( it's amaizing how much some people like silicon gasket goop, the previous owner thought it was easier than getting a couple of O-rings)
anyway, dissasemble the carbs, cleaned them, went to NAPA got new o-rings, put everything back together, oh by the way the cool air filter pods that the bike had they were bloking the air passages on the edge of the carbs. paused for a minute and hit the start button and the bike came to life it idles like a champ, I still need to get the bike registered so I won't really know how well it runs on the street, but so far it look promissing.I'll keep you all posted.
