Hi, been a lurker in this forum for quite a long time. Since this forum is very informative, I didn't even have to post any questions to get my answers. That's how good the GS resources forums to spread the information.

Currently I am rebuilding my GS550E.

Bought complete gasket sets, Dyna S ignition conversion for a complete tear down.

Currently I am looking for an over size rings 0.5 or a std size piston ring to use with my stock piston

Been looking around and found that a CB500 four year 197* has the same piston size. Could it be a replacement for the stock size GS550E?

And from Wiseco's catalog, they manufacture replacement piston rings for a 4 stroke from 4*mm=7*mm.(so i could order any size for my 550)
*how would i check the thickness of the piston rings if it suits the stock pistons?*

Found a couple of links for an oversize piston ring on ebay. But they don't provide part numbers for cross reference

Any body can help me out with where could i find an stock piston ring or 0.5 OS rings for an OS piston that i could source here in Malaysia.

To make it clear:

Option 1: Reuse stock piston => find stock piston rings
Option 2: Buy 0.5 OS piston here in Malaysia => find OS rings.
Option 3: Order piston rings from Wiseco.

Thank You in advance and any other options are welcome.

Why not measure the bores and then decide if you need new pistons? GS engines are ultra durable and typically run to 100,000 miles with reasonable maintenance.

The shop manual should tell you the width of the stock rings, if that Honda has the same size rings then your good. The rings HAVE to be for the exact same bore or the rings will just oval out and never seal properly.
Service manual can be found here:

Hi Benz, I have a set of new std 550 piston rings if you decide to go that route and we can come to some arrangement

measured the ring gap while the ring in the block.

the rings that came with the engine is still in the service manual range.

should i just find new rings?

How many miles on the engine and how do the bores look? If less than 60k miles and no scoring, I'd get new stock rings and bottle brush hone the cylinders.
