    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm about to start tearing down the carbs on my son's 85 gs700e. I wanted to source some replacement carb diaphragms, before I pulled them apart, so off to the various parts sources I've used before and the ones listed here.

OMG WTF!!!! $145 each, that would put this carb job ove $600 in parts!?!?!!!

No way, There has got to be a better (read cheaper) source for the diaphragms..

Does anyone here have a better source for bs32 carb diaphragms????
 
Ebay. Keep an eye out for an inexpensive set and take your chances-----or----some of the members here may have some for sale. :)
 
Do you NEED new ones? That is, are they cut, ripped, torn, etc?

'Cause other than mechanical damage like that, I've never had to replace one in dozens of carb rebuilds.

I'm just getting done doing my own '85 GS700E carbs and the diaphragms in mine were fine, even though the bowls were varnished up a bit.

Just sayin.... :)

Well, I hope I have the same luck with Alex's carbs.
I never had problems with diaphragms on my carb'ed motorcycles, but I had a couple of Mikuni's on a pair of big stand up lawnmower's that were riddled with pin holes.
They were only a couple of years old, so I was shocked that the were that bad.
 
Can I get a Hallelujah, I pulled the carbs a part last night to do something while not sleeping and found the four diaphragms were fine.
I wish I could say the same for the pilot jets as they are packed solid with black brown goop.
It looks like the PO didn't do more than a spray can cleaning of the carbs, and the PPO probably never cleaned them.

As expected most of the o-rings are shot, but the fuel screws are good (just need new o-rings).

I may need to replace a few odd bits like the rubber boots on the choke plungers, but we'll see.
In the mean time Z1 enterprizes is the place to be.
Their pricing was way better than my "friend" discount at that shop where I used to work.
Now I just have to wait for the mail man.

About 90% of the folks around here need nothing other than an O-ring kit (cycleorings.com) when rebuilding their carbs. Z1 sells carb gaskets and pilot jet plugs, but many times you don't even need those. What ever you do please don't waste money on any "carb kits" that contain inferior aftermarket jets and such. Reuse the stock Mikuni brass unless absolutely necessary.

I've been reviewing every carb rebuild tutorial I can find.
I did have to get the pilot jets from z1 since two of them where buggered prior to my pulling these carbs. I got them out but the are done. So I got new mikuni jets from Z1 along with the plugs, gaskets and a few other bits.
I'll grab fuel hose from the local parts store and I got the o-rings from cycleorings already.
I'm not sure the main jets are stock any more, nor am I certain of the spacing in the needle holder.
Time will tell..
