DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I finally got started on my project and got the old front end off the the stock bearing. Everything went well until I put it back in, the steer tube is to short.

The locking collar only shows two threads so not enough for a secure fit. I need at least another 1/4 inch to be secure.

The front end is a 1994 750 and the bearing I reused were the stock 81's. Is there such thing as a low profile upper bearing or do I have to change out the set.
My homework said its all a direct swap but something is not right.

It may also be worth a new set of bearings, the upper is mint but the lower is a bit rough.

See the two threads.

The lower bearing sits a bit high on the lower race, I know I don't have the dust seal...I forgot doh!

Looking at the second picture, it looks as though the steering stem is not flush with the bottom or underside of the lower triple...? could be a shadow.

It should be.

Yes there is two shims that came off the old fork, I thought they were part of it but maybe not. I have to pull the bearing for a new one with the new dust seal so I can probably gain 1/8th of an inch.
There is a bearing shop near my office and I will stop by to see if they can match me up with a lower stack height upper bearing.

If they can't I will have to track down a longer steer tube or pull the old one out of the GS forks...if it comes out.

My 95 750 triple has no shims.

The steeringstem sits flush with the underside of the triple.

No problem mounting them in 1100 steering head. Used the stock bearings.
