    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hanging Idle and Charging system.

Noticed some hanging idle today on the 1100ES pods (K&N and oiled) stg 3 yada yada.

Everything is nice and tight/new boots, no binding or sticky anything...

Carbs synced, seafoam gas treatment and valves adjusted 500 miles ago.

Got to the house and let it idle in the drive for a bit, and checked the plugs. All nice and brown.

I've read most of the posts with hanging idle heading and I don't think I've got an air leak, and judging from plug chops of present and past I'm confident of the jetting and screw adjustment. It does seem to happen more often when warm like everyone else.

Since I had recently replaced the stator (had some richness/stalling issues due to it going out), I decided to check everything once more now that it had some miles on it.

Everything checked out fine initially, but readings for phase 1 started to get wonky as the bike warmed up, and was getting some voltage drops and spikes kinda associated with the idle hanging. Checked/cleaned/replaced all connections/grounds.

The stator tested fine. (thank god :pray:)

Pulled the RR and on the first test :

On my meter the 1 represents no current.

No voltage from all three leads.

Just for fun I did the rest of the tests.

Test 2 : 450 mV or .45V from all three leads.
Test 3 : no voltage
Test 4 : avg 465 mV from all three leads

So obviously it failed 2 of 4 tests and is faulty. Could this fluctuation in voltage do to a faulty RR be a potential cause or addition to the problem of a hanging idle?

Series RR is in the works, will have to see if a new RR makes any difference.

Going to try a CE 600 series RR. Not sure of the size of the CE-601-07 but a buddy of mine has one new for his Harley collecting dust, so I'll get a good deal.

That little R/R ( first post ) is what I call the minis- way too small to inspire confidence- I got two in parts collections off ebay and both failed the simple diode tests. good luck with the harley one, but remember you can always fall back on a Shindengen R/R.
