A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

HERE HERE!! pics please! of ALL your work...

your helmet, is likely either carbon or fiber glass, or a Thermoset Plastic. All should be fine with acrylic paint, but if you have a thermoset plastic shell, watch it with those solvents and use them lightly.

i went shopping around today, and i found some acrylic that has NO touline or xylene in it.. si i shot a few base coats to see how it's gonna dry. i'll probably work on the detail tommorow by hand for the shading, since i've actually DONE that.

One thing all us rattle can abusers forgot to mention was the newer paint put out by Krylon that is meant just for plastics. I haven't read the label, but just thought I'd throw it out there. If it's safe for plastics, it should be relatively solvent free, or at least free of toluene and benzene.

the stuff i found, called krylon fusion, says it's specifically for plastics, but it's got touline in it so i was not sure.. or at least the stuff at michael's did. i ended up using testorex model paint! it seems to have come out fine, too. i made the choice when i saw you could use it on styrofoam.. although it does take 48 hours to cure fully, it's solid enough i could hand paint some of the detail on it today.

i still have to mask off the mouth to get that done, but i'm actually pretty happy with how the shading looks so far. i sprayed the last coat with a really light mistfrom about a foot away so it's got a little texture.. i was going for a bone look.

and now with the mouth:

all i have left now is some random shading around the "teeth" and to tie it into the other shading, then a clear coat over the whole helmet.

i'm pretty happy with it considering i've never painted anything really before, except art class, some 12 years ago. everything but the initial base white was done by hand, which is why it looks a bit rougher than by airbrush.

still from a distance of more than a foot or so it looks pretty sharp, and anyhow, if someone gives me crap about it, i'll ask them to show me their helmets painted by hand :D

Nice, man. Looks good. Never was a big Jack Skellington fan, but it's still pretty rad.

If anybody gives you crap about it, they'll be in one of two categories:
Either they don't wear a helmet and their doo rag / baseball cap was made by a machine or child in China or
They paid someone else $700 to paint a picture of a screaming eagle with a backdrop of the American flag overlooking the Grand Canyon and the words "In Harley We Trust" or something similarly silly.
In other words-- goofballs. :-D
Just slap 'em and be on your way. It'd be the best thing for them.

(No offense to anyone with a screaming eagle/flag/ grand canyon "In Harley We Trust" helmet. It looks awesome. I promise. I'm going to get one just like it when I get my tax refund.*)

My artistic helmet modifications are limited to stickers:

And I couldn't even get the damn thing on straight, so you'll hear no crap from me.

You could probably pick up some pawn shop helmets, paint them and sell 'em on ebay.

hahahahahahahahahahhahahaha\\:D/

..and here is the end result. minus a couple good coats of clear. i've gotta get some more abrasive to scuff up the rest of the helmet before i can shoot it with clear. the shading on the teeth is kinda subtle, but i think it kind of makes'em stand out a little dimensionally.

I agree that we still need to see pics of pauleyboys work...not to "jack" this thread. I click on his bike and only got the two sumos.

By the way nice work looks cool.

All right you guys. I'll see if I can collect my stuff and offer it up for your perusal. Although, the woman whose cleavage was covered is probably 50 by now (that was in my high school hippie-dippie daze), and I just had to be happy with the sight of the real thing, because there were only 4 people that ever saw it (don't ask about the other two).
Yer helmet would make Tim Burton proud. Strangely, right now I'm working on a theme somewhere between his movies like "Nightmare Before Christmas" and the Latino custom of "Dia de los Muertos". A mix of folk art and cartoonish.

ya.. i've always found the costumes and art related to the day of the dead to be interesting. it's not ghoulish, but even in it's somewhat cartoonish look it is a little creepy. but in a good way :) and thank you!
