Hey guys! Could you please advise me on a question I have? I'm hoping to get some info on my top end oiler function. I have a 1982 Suz. GS1100 engine in my bike and have installed an early Vance & Hines top end oil kit. This kit uses the two hoses, one fitted to either side of the cam portion of the cyl. head. This bike is a streetbike with the usual engine mods, 1170 kit, etc. The engine is getting cams soon and as I am building up the bike to run, I fitted the oil kit. This kit uses the aluminum block that takes oil from the oil pressure switch boss cast into the crankcase. The engine has APE head and cyl. studs installed. With the rocker cover off and the engine at idle it appears the oil will fill the cam/rocker box faster than the oil will drain back down into the sump. I expect with the engine running long and at high speed the rocker box will fill up to the point of pressurizing and submerging the cams and rockers in oil.
Is this how these top end oilers work? I expected additional oil would be delivered to the cams and rockers and being distributed by splashing additional oil upstairs, not filling the top end completely. I have read many people block off oil galleries and run oil to the head exclusively with top end oil kits. I have no plans to do this. Is this filling of the cam/rocker arm area with oil typical? Are the heavier APE cyl. studs impeding the flow of oil back to the sump?
Any guidance with this situation will be greatly appreciated and "Thanks" in advance.
