Hi All.
New to the site, hoping for help please.
My ride is a Gsxr1000 k1 but feel embarrassed at my
age I know very, very little regarding wiring, etc of bikes.
I have a suzuki engine I believe to be a gsx400fw but unsure?????
It starts and runs but was not wired by me and it just doesn't make sense how the igniter etc works? Is it missing a rectifier? problem I have is I don't know how to wire correctly to charge the battery.
Any info greatly appreciated please.
All the best.

Welcome to the forum.

Is this for some kind of go-cart project?

First thing. Post a better picture. We can barely make out that it’s a motorcycle engine. Best way to post pictures on the site is by hosting the image on a pic sharing website like Flickr or Imgur. Copy the BBCode of the image, then paste that into your post. That’s the gist. The details are linked in my signature - using Imgur….

Hi,
Thank you so much for reply, much appreciated. Sorry about photo. Unfortunately as you can probably tell I'm not too handy when it comes to tech stuff (image hosting) I just attached from phone.
It is mounted on a kart yes.
Done some trawling and I believe it is the Gsx400fw.
It has the 3 wires coming from ignition pickup cover then into metal igniter box.
I see no sign of a regulator or wires which would attach to one unfortunately????

Any help really appreciated. Thanks again.

Welcome to the site, JB.

We didn't get the GSX400-4 in North America.
The model sent here was the GSF400-4 '89-'92? which was liquid cooled. Don't see a rad in your pic.

If it's like other Suzuki engines, there should be a stator on the left (as your're sitting on the bike, if it was a bike) side of the crank shaft. There should be 3 wires coming out of the stator cover, probably routed through the starter motor cavity. Those 3 wires should connect to a Regulator/Rectifier. Should be a wire that goes from the RR to the + battery post, split out to the harness, maybe. This is all just basic. No idea what you're looking at. That is the best I can do.

Hi Steve, thankyou for reply, rad is on the side as the engine is mounted on a go kart.
Also thank you Rich that's brilliant, I was looking for wires coming from out of stator cover top but now realise that they will be routed by the starter. Will be investigating today hopefully.
Thank you both.. All the best.

Hi both.
Just an update.
Removed starter cover, no wires to be seen.
Took stator cover off and guess what!!!
No stator and, been removed at some point???????
Can see 3 chopped wires in bung.
Now been looking at available stator but most appear to be center hole of 35mm and outside diameter of 93mm.
Casing mount requires 38mm hole. Inside diameter measurement across magnets 106 mm. Unsure what outside diameter I'll require.
Any info greatly appreciated, alternative stators, required gap from windings to magnets, 18 pole?
Thanks again.

Found one on Amazon 18pole, 3 wire, 38mm center, 99mm outside diameter, also has the 40mm distance between 3 fixing holes BUT it lists as for GSX-R600 1997-2000 Motorcycle
Unfortunately l'm not sure whether this will be compatible.

No problem, I appreciate your input. Will let you know how I get on.
All the best.
