The rotor has a spot on it just behind the bolt that you can use a 22mm wrench to hold it with.

The bolt comes out much easier with an impact gun than doing it by hand!

Your going to need two things to get the rotor off.

1 a bolt that is high grade and measures 14mm x1.50

and a pin that you can put in the hole so that the bolt has something to push against. Just make sure its small enough that it doesn't mess up the threads in the crank shaft.

Tighten the 14mm bolt into the rotor until it stops and then use two wrench to drive the bolt down as tight as you can.

Then hit the bolt with a hammer. Tighten it again and hit it again.

Be careful not to hit anything but the bolt!!

In the service manual it actually says that you can use the rear tire axle as the removal tool. Just use a weight on it like a slide hammer.

Make sure you clean the new one up before you install it and check it really well for small cracks or loos epoxy.

There are a few different types of rotors that you can use for that as well

Some have 12 magnets some have 6 and some have 3

I think the ones with 3 last the longest.

The gs500's have this problem too.

First Part worked well, Thanks!
I used a 22 and my 1/2 handle with a long handle and got it opened.
was getting late and didn't have a suitable pin so the second part will be tomorrow i hope

A bit of heat might help as well too loosen it up before popping it off.

Mine came off pretty easily by tightening the bolt down tight and then just a slight tap with the hammer and it flew off. I mean it really poped of with some force! j

Before you pull it off try and get a zip tie around the starter gear and the rotor because if it fly's off the crank, the springs and weights for the starter clutch will fly out

GS500 parts are much more easier to find, will a GS500 unit work here?

Yes I don't know of any reason why not but the 400 and 450 are better. The magnets don't fall apart as easily as those do. They have 3 magnet sets instead of 6 and they are more stable. The gs500 had 6 magnets luke ypurs and are prone to cracking and the epoxy falling off.

How long is the bolt that holds the rotor? i think i might have snapped it. it's only 40 mm long and it looks broken at the end.
am I in deep s@%!t now?
I hope i will still be able to remove the rotor with the bigger bolt, it will make extracting the broken piece easier.

Can you screw the bolt back in ?
it's really not that long, I think its either 40 or 50 mm.

I can't remember but I think mine was only 40 or so.

Look in the hole with a flashlight.

Inside you will see the threads on the rotor and then the threads on the crank and past that there is a hole that is about 6mm wide and it goes into the crank another centimeter.
