You know that feeling.......
spend 3 years building my 850 frame up. Each and every bolt and nut has been cleaned, checked/re zincplated/replaced etc etc. Endless hours of searching for tank with no filler. New sidecovers off e-bay. Waited 8 weeks for new tank and motor emblems. With the help from Oldskool managed to get new sidepanel emblems, cam covers etc.
I sprayed the panels myself. Spend 1 weekend alone just preping them. First time I did pinstripping and it came out great!:o
Many hours of polishing....
Many hours of assembling everything.....

Problem is, the tank had some rust inside and had to be relined. No problem.....send it to Tank liners for epoxy coating.
Got it back Wednesday........
They say when they gave it to my driver it was perfect and they do not know where the dents came from.:twistedevil:
It has been dropped on the corner so hard, the whole seam is bend. Dents on top right on the ridge....
Please pass me that blade:(

If it was shipped via UPS, I would not be surprised that it was dented; they can be pretty rough. Was it insured? Who paid for shipping? Might be able to file a shipping claim with the carrier. If you do this, make sure you have the original shipping box for inspection.

What did the outside of box look like? I have shipped many used tanks and because I know what I am doing none are ever damaged. I make mine "idiot" proof or in other words "carrier" proof.

Are you sure they didn't screw it up and are passing the blame off on UPS? UPS is generally very good, Fed EX a little less than that and USPS (Post Office) is not to be used for anything you do not want broken

Regardless of how it got that way, it's a real bummer. I feel your pain.
Hope this has a happy ending.

He is in South Africa guys. They don't pack anything there. They just throw it in the back of a lorry and cover it up with firewood, chicken coops and bricks. hehe

On another note, it sounds like some epoxy fairing compound should solve the dent problems. Gonna have to do a repaint afterwards though.

Thing is,
I send the driver from work to drop and collect. I did not wrap it up in tissue because when I phoned the guy and asked him to please watch out for the paint job, he got all sarcastic and asked me if I thought they smashed the stuff up. My driver (who delivers machined billet parts for me everyday) did not put it on the back of the truck with the chicken coups etc;) but on the carpet of passenger floor of the van. I believe him if he says he did not damage it. The painter flatout denies any wrong doing. He does "thousands of tanks and right next to your tank was a very scarce Moto Guzzi tank" Does he think nice GS tanks are not scarce? (just know that is spelled wrong!)
As soon as I can get myself to look at it again, I will take a photo. It seems that because I had 3 coats of paint and 4 coats of clear on it, it chipped like glass, so not only is it dented, the paint came off as well.
I might put it back on the bike as is, write this guys name on it with a short explanation and park it at some events. (maybe he can do with some advertising;))
Where are the days where you could still bash a guys face in without landing up in jail:twistedevil:

If I was the driver I would not have accepted delivery of the tank

I'm guessing the title is more of a venting than an actual intent, but I figure it's worth saying that no bike damage is worth slitting your wrists, ever.
Bike = stuff. You = human. Human > stuff.

Now. Vent on.

;) Just looking for simpathy!
I like my bike but don't worship it, thats what God and my wife and kiddo is for:D
Anyway.....it has now been a few days and I had calmed down enough to actually look at the tank again.

seems I can only upload 1 photo at a time?

This is the bottom lip where the tank and seat meets. It does not look like it would leak fuel. It is completely bend over:(

OK,
It's bad, but not all that bad to where it can't be made to look like new again.

I don't see how anyone could've not known they didn't drop or damage it with all that damage on it. I would think someone would or should man up and admit to it. Someone is definitely hiding something. Could be someone just didn't realize how important it was and just rough handled it thinking it wasn't anything special. I don't think a reputable painter would produce a tank like that and let it leave that way. That leaves everyone else that put their grubby paws on it.

Anyone can have an accident but then you own up to it. I had to tap all the holes for the sender unit and tap. Inside the tank there were small, needle size stalagtites of epoxy. If it was my driver that dropped the tank, those would have broken off. They def were formed before the soccermatch
I need to move on and accept it is done and no amount of ranting and fighting is going to change the tank. I did however, decide to start my own advertising concern;)
I wrote on the tank with a marker:
"I had this tank epoxy coated at Tank Liners in Boksburg. It came back with these scars. Nobody knows what happened"
I have posted this on my FB page and am goint to park the bike at all the local events for all to see.:-\\\

Bad things happen to good people. Several weeks ago my neighbors had a party on a Friday night. I had to work the next day, the party outside my bedroom window went on till 3 am, when I woke up to the sound of people yelling and screaming and threatening this and that. Then all of a sudden it stopped, but it was time for me to get up, 4 am. When I left at 6 am with little sleep I almost tripped over my mailbox that was pulled up and put just outside my front door. The flag was twisted all up, there was a row of beer bottles lined up behind my car along with some other trash, some decorative items dissapeared. OK, I could've lived with all the noise and what was done, but there on the rear quarter panel of my car was this big foot print where someone kicked in the side of my car. I was ****ed and I'm thinking what did I do to deserve this? Found out later someone called the cops and they showed up, neighbors probably thought it was me that called them and did this crap seeking revenge. Like you I don't know who did it, but it's gonna cost $50 deductable and the cost of a rental car to get it repaired. Found out the neighbors were in Mexico on vacation and it was their son who had the party, that left the following Monday to go to Marine boot camp.
I still haven't repaired the damage.

Bloody shame. And no one taking responsibility is infuriating. The free "advertising" is a nice touch.

It's nice to see you keep it in perspective of "it's just a tank", but yet..........
