    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I fixed my damn bike and it's all thanks to this place.

This site is incredible. I got my new 79 GS850 back in shape this weekend and if I wasn't able to search and find the answers to my specific questions here, I would have been seriously in trouble. I was able to figure out what to do with my cable slack with the shorter handlebar, figured out that the ignition cables can't be replaced separately from the coils (I just hacked apart another cable and re-crimped the new connector on the old lead), how to straighten my front wheel and how to smack carb 2 because the float carb was leaking from a stuck float after I started the bike for the 1st time! Each time I thought I was going to end up at a shop or on the phone with an unhelpful parts guy. Then I found tire advice and went ahead with a set of Avon AM26s! Here's to the GS Resources and helpful folks.

I'll soon be cleaning/coating the tank, valve adjustment, all the other maintenance items, replacing the regulator, hopefully putting in a Dyna ignition, then pods, an exhaust and I'll be a happy camper. Needless to say, I'll have a few questions! Take care,

When I found this site I had an old bike. Now I have a b*tchin street machine. The people here are so ready to help and are unselfish with their knowledge.
 
I would of never gotten my bike on the road if it wasn't for this place. People here are incredible, they talk to you and help out like they've been your live long neighbor. Not only that, but if your stuck out in the middle of no where (any where in the world) there is prob a gs'r nearby, ready to give a helping hand (despite our many cultural/political differences). This forum is truly an unique place to be.

Honestly, if gs were pieces of crap (which of course they are not) I would still keep buying/restoring them over any other bike just because of the positive experience this site and its members have set on my short but memorable biking experience.

For 79 GS850 I would definately sugest replacing the coils & wires. I have the 3 ohm dyna green coils & a 2 ohm balast because I still have my points. Get the Dyna ign only if it is in your budget
 
You may find your bike becomes unhappy with the pods, unless you do other work on the carbs and possibly alter the exhaust as well.

The pods alone will make the engine run lean.
