Idle hanging up 1150

1150-1229 kit with 90 gixxer 11 carbs, factory jet kit, k&n's, pipe.

Idle has been hanging up lately, more towards the end of the ride. I realize this usually indicates a lean condition, but even when my carbs o-rings hadn't been changed the idle rarely ever hung up.

I recently changed the intake boots, had the carbs synced and changed the o-rings. The o-rings were changed after sitting in water, vinegar, lemon juice for 5 days.

The weird thing is, I've progressively richened the float height, after I changed the o-rings and replaced the emulsion tubes, 3 times. So the mixture is richer than it's ever been.

If I let the clutch out slightly at a stop, the idle will come down. Also when I shift gears, it feels like the throttle is still engaged, even though I've rolled off the throttle to the stop when I shift. There's slop in the throttle cable, so it should be bottoming out.

A/F screws are out probably more than they should be 3.75-4 turns which makes me think I might need to richened the pilots. I tried to determine if they're stock or 2 sizes bigger, but w/o the carbs off, I'm not sure. Last time I checked the plugs, they looked bare, if not a super light tan.

While riding today I tried pulling the choke out at 35mph, which made it run worse. Just seeing what thoughts folks have as to what might be the cause. Thanks.

Are the carbs mikuni BS36's? I would carefully inspect the needle and carburetors slides for wear.

Dry cables, dry inside the switch box where the grip twists, misadjusted cables, frayed cable ends, dry pivot points in the carbs throttle linkages..like between the carbs. Lots of stuff other than an air leak can be contributing factors also. Not to say dont check for a leak. I am saying check EVERY possibility and for sure a spray of oil at the moving points on the rack will be of benefit. Thats a very often overlooked area.

Cables are in good working order and lubed. Throttle snaps back nice and quick. Carbs are slingshot 36mm, with the semi flat plastic slide.

Have you tried a set of vacuum gauges and make sure it is still in sync. When was the last time the valve clearances were checked? Gas cap venting, carb bowls venting etc. Besides what everyone has mentioned.

Went for a ride today and the idle continues to hang up. I think I'll try some 32.5 pilots and see what happens. Anyone have some solid wall 32.5's or other suggestions?

-cables lubed & adj w/play
-valves adj
-new emulsion tubes
-new o-rings
-new carb boots
-A/F screw 3-4 turns out. Makes me think bigger pilots
-float height is a hair under 17mm which is lean by gsxr spec of 14.6mm, but GS has flatter intake tract
-recent carb sync
-142.5 mains
-30 pilots
-middle clip on Factory needle
-K&N's

Mixture screws shouldn't be that far out. Also, check the manifolds for cracking & then sync the carbs. Ray.
