DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Intermittent carb leak.

On an 82 1100E the left outboard carb intermittently drips gas sometimes. I rebuilt them about a year ago and installed a new needle and seat. It seems to always start leaking when it is started cold, but many times it does not leak. In fact most of the time it doesn't leak. After it runs a bit it will stop leaking, say 20 or 30 minutes. So I thought intermittent leak, has to be the needle, and seat, so I replaced them with new parts. Great for a week or so, then back to the same pattern. I have built hundreds of carbs, and this one has me wondering what is going on. Now I am thinking the float might be worn, or the carb body, causing the float to hang up a bit, possibly blocking it from rising and shutting off the fuel.

My question is has anyone else ever been through this, and solved the problem. If so what was the cause.

Hi,

Are you using OEM parts? They seem to work the best.

Thank you for your indulgence,

No I used an aftermarket needle and seat to replace the factory needle and seat, that wasn't very old. It is basically doing the same thing as it was before. I have been starting it after the bike is off of the kick stand, and it hasn't leaked anymore. It seems to start leaking when it is on its kick stand. I am thinking there must be some wear pattern making the float hang when it is on the kick stand. It is a weird one for sure.
