If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

i replaced mine witha new gasket...10 miles at oh 70mph my rear tire is covered in oil on the left side...

is there something else other then that gasket that will leak? its all oily up by the gear indicator wires too...oil filter cover looks dry

junk gasket maybe?

make sure you didn't over fill with oil. it finds a way out on the left side if ya put in too much.

i know there are a few threads on finding the exact location of an oil leak. i remember one about using cruex (jock itch spray) on a clean engine to zero in on the spot.

Have your Petcock on prime recently?
Still there?
Worth a check.

I dont know about the 850, but my 1100 only takes 3700ml of engine oil from bone dry, less on a regular oil change

MATT.....How can it be LESS ON A REGULAR OIL CHANGE?? If your changing the oil properly that will include a new filter each 3000 miles or whenever you do it. The new CLEAN FILTER is every bit as important as new oil is!!!

And as for your leak, OP. Did you be sure every little bit of old gasket was off the engine and the cover? I have missed little bits on a clutch cover once and it leaked almost immediately when I started the bike. Doesnt take much either!!!

Does the 850g have a clutch push rod? If so the rubber seal can go pretty quickly and vomit oil all over the near tire.

If i recall correctly. it should have the top link mount like the 1000s have on top of the clutch cover.

Aye Chucky,

From the factory manual:

Oil Capcities:

oil change: 3L
filter change: 3.3L
overhaul: 3.7L

That's 3.49qt on a "regular" filter change, 3.9qt on a rebuild and you with your foot squarely in your mouth. :-\\\

4qt is overfilled

No Matt...you with a gunked up filter. What i stated was "How can it be less on a regular oil change" And by that what i meant is that a "regular oil change" ( to most anyone with a vehicle that is ) INCLUDES a new oil filter. To change the oil and not the filter is what i classify as a half azzed job..Furthermore where did i state 4 quarts of anything?

Basically i was calling your shortcut oil changing tactics to task...but somehow you missed that too.

Some suggestions for you as I've had the same issue.

Did you put all the bolts back in the same hole? As I recall some are different lengths so might not properly seal if they are wrong.

Did you make sure all the bolts are torqued correctly with a torque wrench? If you just go by feel with a ratchet you could over / under tighten a bolt and cause a leak.

Also did you clean ALL the old gasket off, without gouging the metal? An imperfections in the surfaces can cause a leak.

Finally did you use and OEM Suzuki gasket? I made the mistake of using a vesrah gasket for my clutch, leaked instantly and I had to do the whole job over again.

Hope one or more of these suggestions help you, take your time the second time around and make sure it's done right so you don't have to do it again. I've been there and I know how frustrating leaks can be. You'll get it fixed.

I soooo agree...
Doing an oil change and not changing out to a new filter is like taking a shower and putting back on your week old underwear:p

Did you remove all the old gasket?
Did you check the pan on a flat surface for warpage?

Ohhh Chucky....

Where did I say anything about not changing a filter?

You Ass-umed that incorrectly. I commented on the difference between a rebuild and a regular (with filter as if that needed to be said) oil change.

The original poster Mr. Cafe said he put in 4 qts.

Tell ya what though, if ya ever get round central Florida let me know, and I'll show you half-assed and dirty:D

No torque wrenches for me...had bad luck with them, name brand too.

I got a leaky 1100 that is befuddling me. I was at the track for the last time and I have oil all over the left side. I even found oil on my elbow... The motor was just rebuilt last winter. It did not leak right away... but it seems to get worse as runs are put on it. I really don't want to put a diaper on it. Does anyone know of a dye to put in the oil for ultraviolet light to reveal?

Or you can do the GS advised way and clean the engine well with some degreaser and have it dry. Then apply some spray on foot powder such a Tinactin or whatevers the cheapest and let that set up a bit. Start the engine and let it run and start looking at any and all suspect places. Soon as the oil starts to seep the powder will start looking wet and discolored... do a search on this. Mnay have posted pics of it in action.
