    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

is it possible to disassemble throttle on these carbs?

I guess the answer is yes, but has anyone done it?

I had a spare carb body and I tried taking out the two
philips head screws which attach the throttle to the shaft.
I was unable to do this.

So tell us your secret. The screws seemed to be completely stuck on my throttle. The fact that you have to use a tiny philips screw driver made it almost certain that they will get stripped. Which screwdriver did you use to get them out? Do you have the worlds smallest impact screwdriver?
 
Yes the throttle shafts can be removed, BUT be warned, the butterfly shaft screws are "staked" with a punch, which flares the threads. This is so the screws cannot back out and get sucked into your engine. Removing those screws is almost impossible without stripping the screw head.
 
Question is why do you want to remove them ?? You will distroy the screws, your dremel will be usefull

There are seals along the shaft which are bad on the 550's carbs. They leak a little fuel and cause grime to build up. They're also probably leaking vacume. If I could remove the shaft I could fix the seals. But the crimp on the screws is a problem. I guess I can drill them and find replacement screws if I really wanted to.
 
These are very difficult. When you replace the screws you will need to "Cripple" the threads by using some lock tight type product that will insure that you done't lose one in the motor.

Thats very important......
