A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

ISO Pictures or "embossed numbering" order on lower crankcase 1980 GS850 GL Model T

Hi Everyone,

I split my case and painted the halves with some thick paint and now that I am on to assembly...but I realized I cannot see the embossed numbers on the lower crankcase which are needed to tighten the lower bolts in order!

Does anyone have a picture of a lower case half that you could share so I can see the numbers and tighten the bolts in oder per the FSM? Or if you know the numbering can you translate it to me somehow?

Thank you!

The factory manual has the tightening order information; tighten from inside to out in a crisscross pattern. This is for the large 8mm case screws clamping around the crank. The other screws don't have an order. It's wise to tighten them all in a two step fashion though. Be very careful not to strip the thinner 6mm screw threads; a lot of guys blindly trust the torque wrench and wind up stripping threads; be ready to stop turning if the screw isn't snugging tight like you expect.

Hi Everyone,

I split my case and painted the halves with some thick paint ...
Are you aware that Suzuki never painted the bottom case?

You are free to do what you want, but if you are rebuilding it with hopes of entering a concours competition, you will lose points on that detail. :-k

On the other hand, ... when is the last time anyone entered their GS in a concours?
