DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a K&N air filter, and ride on the street only (no dusty conditions generally). I have conflicting information about how often to clean the filter. The Clymer manual says to clean it every 4,000 miles or 12 months. The K&N recharge kit instructions say to clean it every 50,000 to 100,000 miles. I know the Clymer manual is for the original filter, which is not a K&N, but 4,000 miles versus 50,000? How often do you clean your K&N air filter?

I clean mine when they look dirty:)
Yup. You can't go by mileage because the amount of crud in the air differs from place to place and in different weather.
When they look dirty, go ahead and clean them. If they don't look dirty, no matter how many miles you have on them, just leave them alone.

That's the ticket!. I had to clean mine on my trip to CA (had to buy another filter kit, left mine at home) with only about 6k on it due to road construction dirt clogging it up.

I clean my K&Ns about twice a year, untill you wash them out you dont know how dirty they get, my gs1000s holds back slightly at 3000rpm when they need cleaning.

Hi,

I clean mine every third or fourth oil change. It's usually a little dirty by then.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

You can tell when a K&N starts to get dirty. It changes color. Sure, if you clean it after 1000 miles it will clean out some dirt, its job is to catch the dirt. But until it changes colors, it is just doing its job. And they do wear out, they can only take so many cleanings.
Just a thought.

clean them then get the filter skins, dennis kirk has them i believe there water proof as well i believe
