A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

K & N Filter Restricting Flow?

I just put a K & N Filter on my 81 GS850G. Weird, but when I accelerate hard the engine cuts out a little around 5500 RPM. If I back off the accelerator for a second and hit it again, the revs continue to climb and off I go. Also, the idle has jumped up to 2500-3000 RPM's, and continues to rise even if I back off the idle adjustment knob. Do I need to make adjustments to the carbs? Any help would be appreciated.

Interesting. Another member with an '81 850, says his K&N wouldn't allow his bike to run past 4,000 rpm.
See his post at "GS 850 stalling at idle".

Sounds like an intake leak.
I wonder what would happen if you put the old filter back on?

That's what happened to me! No intake leaks. Try putting the old one back on or if you can't try it without the filter but with side panels back on, Do not run very long without filter just a short spin to get thru the gears and see how it acts. Get a foam filter for some reason this model likes it.

What I have found about K&N filters and GS's is that the amount of oil used on the filter has to be just right, to simulate the same amount of 'restriction' that a stock filter has.

I am having the same problem with the foam filter on my GS 650. I cleaned it and it still stumbles around 6k. I moppd off most of the filter oil, same problem. But without the filter it runs mint. I am reluctant to go back to the stock paper filter because the foam Uni one DID work once, I never owned the bike when it had a stock filter. Plus Suzuki wants $40+ for the filter  Sounds like we're having similar problems, I will let you know if I find out anything, please keep us in the loop with yourself as well :D

One thing I did notice is that after changing air filters around is that the plugs would foul out, you can try to clean them, but your better off getting a new set. You would be amazed how fast they can foul out. Try it and see what happens.
