A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

K&N filter

I have a new-to-me 1981 650GL. I was taking things apart last night and found what looks to be a K&N air filter in the airbox. I checked the K&N site and they do not make an air filter for this model, but perhaps they did in the past? The bike hasn't been on the road since 1993 so it's definitely an old filter. It looks to be in good condition though. Does anyone know if K&N used to make an air filter for this bike?

Thanks!
K

I didn't look that closely, but will tonight. Who else makes a reusable filter?

A lot of impostors make them. Some are worthless, some worse than worthless, some are actually OK.

I saw one on Ebay several years ago, claimed to be K&N, I believe they did make them once upon a time, but I think that the fitment/design was of a very particular nature (as is the stock foam), and that unless there was a fair amount of precision in the molding of the plastic 'surround', it would probably leak extra air into the induction process. All half-ass guess work on my part, but a plausible scenario.:-\\\

Here's a picture of the filter. It sure seems like a K&N but there is no name on it anywhere. I sprayed it with K&N cleaner and it came out really well. It fits perfectly into the air box and was definitely made for this model.

You forgot the picture :-P

Nevermind, it's up now.

Yes they made a filter for that model
I bought a inventory of NOS parts from the dealer next door and had 2-3 of those
Plus alot of other models. I have since sold most of them.I just kept what fit my bikes.

Looks like a good filter yet, let it dry good and reoil it. My K&N is going on 34 years old.
