A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Well followed all the rules to cleaning a carb. Got them put back together yesterday. Rode approx.100 miles since. Still has some lag pulling out. That's a battle for another day. Thanks to all for the help and advise. Don't know if the lag is normal or a jetting issue. All stick jet sizes are in it running factory air box. But for now just happy and slightly frozen.

Where are the pilot screws set? Are you running a stock air filter and if so is it clean and properly oiled? Are the valves adjusted?

Screws are 2 1/2 out. Stock air filter. Cleaned not oiled. Have not attacked the valves.

So now it tuning time. I would start with doing a "highest idle" setting on the pilot screws and see how it does then. Sounds like she real close though.

2.5 turns open is fine. You need to oil the air filter otherwise the engine may be running lean, thus contributing to your bogging issue. And needless to say the valves MUST be adjusted; failing to do so will not only cause running problems it will also damage the engine. Please check the Newbie Mistakes thread linked in my signature.

Ever so lightly oil them!! A good misting is all they really need to stick dirt and crud to them. Over oiling is like the chokes being permanently stuck on.

I take the foam and pour some motor oil on it and then squeeze the foam and release a few times so the foam distributes the oil throughout itself. Then take the foam and squeeze good and hard to get any excess oil out. don't twist the foam like a wash cloth though. It's all explained in the factory service manual.

Nessism I agree the valve will need done. I have maybe 2-3 weeks of the season left so maybe a dumb mistake but for a few weekends left I will take that once it's too cold to ride.

The same tune will run leaner in the cold..

Did you sync the carbs? Agree that the valve adjustment is critical. Sync the carbs AFTER the valves are adjusted. The valve lash effects everything.

Can you find someone with a compression tester? If the compression is above 120 psi on all cylinders than you should be okay to ride until the season is over. If it's below that level though, I wouldn't ride for fear of damaging valves further.
