DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I finally got a hold of the parts I need for my GSX750ES. The fun part is starting :-)

I personally know of a few types grease:
1. Silicone grease: Transparent and very sticky. Excellent for keeping rubber o rings alive forever. I have the food grade one suitable for aquarium filters and this one is very expensive.
2. Copper grease : Copper color and sticky as hell. Can withstand high temperatures.
3. Carbon grease.
4. Low quality red industrial red grease

Can anyone of the experts here sort the various parts in motorcycle and tell me which one should be lubed by which grease ?
Here is a partial list I could think of:

a) Needle bearings.
b) Ball bearings.
c) Bearing outer part:
I believe that actual needles of the steering bearing need a different grease than the one applied to their outer cone ring which is aggressively pushed into place.
d) Drive chain.
e) Threads that need protection from corrosion or erosion.
f) Rubber parts that need protection from sun and solvents.
In this case I know that transparent silicon grease does magic.
g) Mechanical Cables (clutch, brakes etc.).
h) Rubber gaskets.
i) Heavy duty pins such as used in wheel axis and suspension axis.
j) Engine mounting guide pins.
k) Spark plug threads.

IANAE, but here's what I use:

d. DuPont All-Purpose spray lube with Teflon. I buy it at Lowe's, costs 1/2 as much as chain lube from the cycle shop. Recommended on many owners club boards.

e, k. Anti-seize lube, which is molybdenum based.

f,h. Maguiar's Vinyl & Rubber Conditioner. By "rubber gaskets" do you mean the rubber grommets such as where the side panels fit in, and the rubber cushions for the gas tank (on my 550 anyway, the tank slides up against two rubber bumpers on the frame)?

g. silicone spray lube (NAPA).

"By "rubber gaskets" do you mean the rubber grommets such as where the side panels fit in, and the rubber cushions for the gas tank"

Yes. These too but also:
- The (pricey) intake manifolds.
- The rubber o-rings that come between the intake manifolds and the engine head.
- The AIR filter periscope
...and basically any other rubber part that doesn't like the combination of a hot environment and a corrosive one...not including condoms in the glove compartment of course... :D
