I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Manual Petcock for a 1978 GS550?

Laz

Forum Newbie
I discovered I'm having fuel issues out of my petcock. I don't really need the vacuum, I'm fine with remembering to turn it off. Is there a recommended manual petcock for a 1979 gs550? Thanks

What issues are you having?

OEM parts are available for leaks

only runs on prime. this is the second petcock I've bought, first one leaked. I'm growing broke from buying these; it's no thing for me to just turn it off after the ride

Pingel is the goto.

No personal experience to share. Just what I've read. To the best of my knowledge, low as it may be, Pingels are all non-vacuum taps, so you'll have the cap the vacuum port on the back of your #3 VM carb (my assumption based on the year 1979). You'll have to find the Pingel adaptor plate that lines up with your screw hole spacing on your tank. The form factor and fitment will be different than your OEM tap, fitment between the tank and carbs may be an issue (this is usually only with later CV carbs, from the stories I've read).

Other than some members here using Pringel, mostly high performance applications, my memory doesn't recall very many people searching out non-vacuum options. The standard Suzuki vacuum petcocks are largely without fault, other than wearing out over the years. No doubt, you can find a manual petcock, with a little work. Measure bolt to bolt spacing, likely 44mm, then go hunting for a manual unit with the outlet port in the direction you need. Maybe check Z1? eBay also.

just try to rebuild the one you have, buy a new oem one, or buy a good working one on ebay.

dont look for anything else. looks like these petcocks were used for almost every late 70s-early 80s Suzuki motorcycle.

theres really nothing to them, Hondas petcocks now thats a different story, i really did my research to replace that damn vacuum petcock

Go back to the leaky one, and replace the disc and handle seals with OEM parts
Very simple job
