A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

We put a new engine from a parts bike into my '82 gs650l. It has been running great except for one problem...when you turn the handlebars to the right the engine revs and when you turn the bars to the left it idles way down. Things that we have tried...
1. It's not in the carburators.
2. Gone through all the electrical wiring, no broken wires.
3. Replaced throttle cable...it isn't catching or pulling.
4. Replaced the choke cable.
5. Put on new vaccum lines for fuel.
6. It doesn't do it when the bike leans to the left or right, only when the bars are turned.
7. Re-routed all the electrical wires to make sure they are free and not pinching.
8. Put a voltage meeter on it, it shows that everything is fine.
9. It is only when you turn the handlebars to the left and right.

We can't figure out what else it could be. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful!!!

Go back over the throttle cable, it is adjusted too tight and likely not routed very well.

At idle there should be some slack no matter where the bars are turned. The throttles in the carburetors should go "Clack" when you close the throttle quickly.

Sometimes the cable routing looks OK, but things change when the gas tank is installed.

Cable definitely cable

turn the bars right till it revs and then loosen the cable till it idles down,

Mine does the same :)

Well the cable is completely loose no matter which way the bars are turned and does make the "clack" so we can't see why it would be that either

Loose should mean that at the throttle cable bracket on carb 3, with the nuts all tightened down, there is at least 1/16" of play in the cable.
