A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Not too long ago I bought my second bike, second Suzuki I've owned, first GS I've owned and I love her, good looking, strong, reliable bike. I went out looking for one like this just personal preference. It was a mostly completed bike and since I've pretty much finished her up BUT...I'm a perfectionist and I like to constantly tinker with things so I want to change a few things just not sure what yet ha!

So far the bike has been jetted, pod filters, front and rear sprockets, and a custom exhaust done by a local shop. My question is what can be done performance wise to the 550 in terms of the engine?
I thought I saw a thread about a 650 top end being able to bolt on to the 550 bottom??? Anyone do this or have any experience? Does anyone make performance cams for the bike? I've looked and can't find any

As far as future plans go...I want a gsxr front end but can't find info for what year gsxr would fit 77 GS550..I've found threads of people saying they did it but not discussing what they had to do to fit it onto the GS.

Powder Coat frame, wheels, odds and ends and give the motor a fresh coat of paint come late fall winter (long time off though)

Thanks in advance for any and all help! Love this website!

Oh almost forgot, the type of riding I do is pretty much all around, not too aggressive in turns (you can see why) and I ride back roads, highway, interstate if that helps. Again thanks so much!

Have a '78 GS550

I'd never owned a Suzuki before buying this bike several years ago, and I think it will be a permanent addition to my "stable."

Other than basic maintenance, I haven't done any performance modifications since I'm not really a "go-fast-hair-on-fire-type." It's a great around-town bike, and does very well in the twisty county roads around here.

The chain needs replacing, and I might go with an extra tooth or two on the front sprocket for highway cruising. If I do, I'll let you know how it works out.

It won't work very well.
The little 550 engine needs to rev to be efficient.
It will be a dog, and get lousy gas mileage, you will spend a lot more time in the lower gears.
