    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Neutral light is out. Why?

Hey guys,

I love my neutral light. It tells me that I can let go of the clutch without my bike flying out from under me. But not it's not working. Could it just be the light bulb? The switch? All the other gear indicators are working, but the neutral light is separate on the console. What the heck.

Or the wires - did you disconnect them when you were working on the top end?
 
Didn't touch the wires. I don't think it was working before the rebuild. I think it is a separate incidence.
 
It's probably just the bulb, I'd check that first - they don't last forever ya know and the bike is how old.....

Secondly, the neutral light is nice and all but definitely not to be blindly trusted - especially on older bikes.
 
Maybe that single blue wire is unplugged under your tank.

You can trust it, regardless of the age of the bike! Less so if the condition of your wiring is bad.

HOLY HELL how did you know! I wondered what that blue wire was? It is disconnected! YOU SOLVED THE PUZZLE!

That wire just about always pulls out because of the stupid way it was run as if it was an afterthought and not part of the harness.

And dont ask me how I know!:-\\\
 
that wire comes unplugged about every time I take the tank off or the airbox out. then I kick and scream and remember it usually comes apart.
 
If the gear indicator shows no numbers, you are in neutral. Just an observation, don't hate me,

I can't remember ever having it come apart unless I wanted it apart.
And that has only been twice, over the last five years, on about six different bikes. :o

Thanks a bunch!! This is my first visit to the forum and your post fixed the problem. I’d searched the circuit from front to back and missed the “blue wire under the tank”. Sure enough it had been pulled apart when I removed the carbs for cleaning. It’s going to be great having my neutral light back.
